Can You Use Avocado Powder Without Hydrating It?

Avocado powder is often used in applications for which it must first be hydrated. For example, it can be added to smoothies with liquids, or it can be combined with water to make pureed avocado to be used in dips and spreads. But as you sit there with a package of powdered avocado in front of you, a question might come to mind: can you use it dry, without adding any liquid? Actually, you can. Here are some ways you can get creative and use that avocado powder without moistening it.

Sprinkle It on Toast

Avocado powder can make a really unique toast topping. Think of this as your own version of avocado toast! It's best if you spread a little butter on the toast first so that the avocado powder sticks. If you want toast with a little more pizzazz, you can add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper or garlic powder. Avocado powder is especially good on really hardy, whole wheat and oat bread because its creaminess balances out these breads' crustiness.

Sprinkle It on Popcorn

Popcorn is a really good snack. It's also healthy because it is high in fiber and low in calories. Sprinkling some avocado powder on your popcorn is a good way to balance it out and add some more nutrition. (Avocado is a great source of magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin K, and unsaturated fatty acids.) If you pop your popcorn in just a little olive oil or coconut oil, your avocado powder will stick to it. You can add a little salt, too, but it's not essential. Make sure you toss the popcorn as you sprinkle the avocado powder to keep it from clumping.

Coat Your Chicken or Veggies

Roasted chicken and veggies are delicious. People often coat them in breadcrumbs or cornmeal before roasting them, but maybe you're looking for a coating that is lower in carbohydrates. Avocado powder could be a great choice! Just toss your chicken or veggies in it and roast. You do not have to add any extra oil since there are natural oils in the avocado powder. The avocado powder will get nice and crisp in the oven, and it will add some healthy fats to your meal.

Avocado powder is usually re-hydrated before it is used, but there are some ways to use it dry. Try it as a topping for toast or popcorn or as a coating for your other roasted foods.
